botak chin // robin hood - ocean trout, soba noodle, avocado yuzu mousse // kalimutu’s kfc
Oh my, I daresay we’ve found our latest favourite brunch & lunch spot. We can’t seem to stay away.
Their lunch menu has a slight Malaysian twist to it. The botak chin (named after one of Malaysia’s most wanted criminals - I’ll tell you about Kalimutu when I have the kunyit fried chicken), ridiculously good, its a permanent feature on our table. The char siew pork is gleamingly fatty lush & melts in your mouth, the crepe blanketing the pork is light, as a bite with the pork the only point of difference is the undeniable silkiness of the fat. The tempura enoki stays pristinely crispy for texture, with brightness from the carrots & sweet orange slivers cutting through the richness.
brioche pain perdu, spiced wine poached plums, mascarpone & candied pistachio
On another occasion, I indulged in the pain perdu, crisp thick soldiers, with those sweet bright plums & jam with a hint of rose, and that decadent white chocolate mascarpone with milk chocolate shavings.
We have barely exhausted the menu because we can’t stay away from our favourites, but I have my heart set on the trifle yoghurt, apple & peach almond crumble next, or perhaps the orange & rosewater bircher muesli.
