linguine w crab, chilli, tomato // onion tart w truffle crust // braised beef cheek w buckwheat polenta & fennel // date & apple cake w toasted almond ice cream, quince & spiced tea jelly
Situated in the Arts Centre, Trocadero does elegant Italian dining with a view of the city skyline. They offer a lunch prix fixe of two courses with wine for $39.
The linguine done aglio olio with sweet crab morsels and tomatoes, thick al dente strands. The beef cheek tender enough, but it’s that polenta that is laced with cheese that has you going back for more.
It’s the unconventional onion tart that drew us in, barely any pastry, what little is there is deliciously crisp. Encircling a soft tangle of lightly caramelised onions topped with a crumble for more texture. The soubise is rich of onions, adding a slow creaminess to finish.
The date & apple cake moist, slight bitterness from the torched quince. But the side of creamy ice cream was splendid, rich with bold notes of toasted almond. With a more-ish sticky crunchy dusting of popcorn.
