smoked eel w sashimi tuna, lemon curd & sea herbs
A gorgeous gastropub tucked away in Paddington. An amuse of smoked fish, basil & paprika. The eel parfait creamy & rich, the tuna cool & firm glazed with sweet soy, acidity of the lemon curd welcome but not the bitterness - parfait & curd, unusually both associated with the sweets. Textures of the crisp bread against the parfait were welcome.
twelve hour braised lamb shoulder w baby carrots, colcannon fennel salad
The sides were the stars - first that colcannon, with parsley & green onions in this velvety mash with olive oil in a heavy cast iron pot. That gorgeous heap of baby carrots, in a light creamy minted yoghurt with cumin for seasoning. The lamb was inconsistent, but the entire board as a whole, fantastic.
