Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana
10 Manchester Lane
In search of Italian food in the Melbourne CBD, but wanting to try something new, I found myself at Maccaroni Trattoria.
Tucked away in Manchester Lane off Collins Street, it was relatively quiet when we popped by for lunch.
Risotto Marinara - Calamari, Prawns, Mussels, Cherry Tomato & Parsley ($16)
The seafood wasn’t very fresh, and the risotto was disappointing. There wasn’t much taste. Even doused with cheese and seasoning as a last resort didn’t help.
Ossobuco Milanese - Braised Ossobuco and Diced Vegetables served with Saffron Risotto and Parmigiano Cheese ($17.5)
The ossobuco on the other hand was quite tender, particularly in the middle. And the carrot and celery topping was quite comforting and went well with the ossobuco. The ossobuco needed to be served piping hot to savour the marrow nestled within the bone. The saffron risotto was a disaster and was untouched.
Maybe I didn’t choose the right dishes, but I certainly won’t be back. The pasta was quite dismal and there are plenty of places in the city to get a good bowl of pasta like Lupino, Il Solito Posto and my new favourite, Henry & the Fox.
