Three Bags Full
60 Nicholson Street
I adore Three Bags Full. Where do I even begin. There are the delightful breakfasts, the good coffee and the healthy juices.
My one pet peeve would have to be the wait. Not the wait for a table, which is surprisingly not too bad. It’s the wait upon placing your order I dread.
Chocolate & Cheesecake Brownies
My next pet peeve is that given the wait, all the sweet treats be it chocolate muffins, pink frosted cupcakes, brownies or fudge slices starting calling out to me.
The good news is the coffee arrives quickly and it’s pretty good. If the ploy in the long wait for our brunches is so we order another cup of coffee, it’s working and I’m not complaining.
Watermelon, Strawberry, Apple & Mint ($6)
A gorgeous concoction, visually and tastewise. Light, refreshing and not too sweet, the fresh watermelon and strawberry flavours are unmistakeable.
Smoked Trout Omelette, Beetroot, Milawa Chevre & Chevril ($16)
Light and fluffy complete with crisp bits, encasing fragrant trout morsels, dollops of sweet and tangy beetroot, soft musky goat’s cheese. Combined with the toast to make a delicious bite.
Smashed Avocado, Yarra Valley Persian Feta, Olive Oil & Pepitas ($14)
The lemon wedge helps to cut through the creaminess of the avocado heap. I particularly like the nuttiness of the pumpkin seeds. But I still like the one they have at Little Press.
Sticky Black Ginger Bread, Vanilla Bean Mascarpone, Candied Cumquats & Pistachio ($16)
My sweet tooth is rather elusive but has revealed itself in recent years. I have a fondness for exquisite delicately plated desserts and I’ve gradually cultivated a fondness for sweet treats. I noticed the black ginger bread on my previous visit and I was determined to order it this time. Gorgeously baked, the crust has a satisfying chewiness and each delicious mouthful is incredibly more-ish. Ginger lovers will crave a stronger taste but it does linger after each mouthful. The candied cumquat and pistachio crumble gave it a sweet nutty accompaniment.
The wait, is expected. The place is always packed. And you wouldn’t have it any other way. Three Bags Full is one of those busy brunch places which infallibly delivers.
