251 The Esplanade
Other than Stokehouse and Donovans, I’m not familiar of any other place with a gorgeous view of the water. We stopped by Sails On The Bay, only to find out it was closed. We found ourselves all the way in Middle Brighton and took a turn down to this busy little spot.
Situated next to Brighton Baths Health Club, we overlook their swimming area, where you can spend the day on the deck or in the water for $5.
It was a lovely day and the tables were pretty packed when we arrived.
Sauteed Prawn Linguine, Spinach, Cherry Tomatoes & Soft Herbs ($25)
Compared to the ones we had at Manhattan, Cicciolina and Donovans, the prawns here couldn’t hold a candle to the fresh crunchy sweet ones we’d sampled over the past few days. The pasta was al dente with sweet cherry tomatoes.
Confit Duck & Mushroom Risotto & Soft Herbs ($20)
The risotto was lacking the bite I craved, and in one word - gluggy, with bits of shredded duck and mushroom.
Little Creatures Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($18)
The batter was quite thick, and the fish wasn’t soft or silky.
Banking on the calm scenic view and bright blue skies, and the aid of a glass of Riesling or two, I’m in a slightly more forgiving mood but the food could be better.
