Everyone knows Old Kingdom. There’s one in Surrey Hills and there’s Simon’s Peiking Duck Restaurant in Box Hill. The interior is really quite dull and dark. But the peking duck is a real treat. It’s recommended that you pre-order the duck at the time of your booking.
At $55 a duck, they do a brilliant three courses utilising the duck in every way possible. They bring the whole duck out to you for starters. The waiter deftly plates up beautiful slices of glistening crispy duck skin attached to generous juicy flesh.
Self serve peking duck with a sheet of thin paper like pancake (akin to the wrapper skin for popiah), cucumber and scallion, and hoisin sauce.
The second part of the three courses is a fragrant stir fry of bean sprouts and duck.
And the finale is a light duck broth.
The lemon sole was quite fresh.
Peking duck is their specialty and is a must have. It’s generous in portion, delicious and satisfying. Service is a little on the slow side, so be prepared for a little bit of a wait. I think a duck between two peking duck lovers is just perfect and you won’t need anything further from the menu.
