238 Gertrude Street
Birdman Eating has interesting little winged figurines and flower filled vases hanging from the ceilings. I noticed a couple requested to be re-seated, away from the line of fire.
The soy latte was smooth.
Quaint teapot set.
Baked Eggs - Turkey a la King ($14)
I much prefer the baked eggs at Hardware Societe. The flavours here weren’t as punchy, it reminded me of a thick minestrone with vegetable chunks. The eggs were a little overcooked.
Steamed Spring Bay Mussels with Lap Cheong & Green Chilli ($16)
We decided to try one of their dishes on the blackboard. I was disappointed to find the mussels weren’t fresh. Interesting flavour combination, I actually quite liked the use of chinese sausage strips and the mild green chilli.
Birdman Eating was busy so it must have its appeal. But in light of all that Melbourne has to offer, I probably won’t be coming back any time soon.
