Cumulus is round the corner from my office. I adore their velvety hot chocolate. My favourite in Melbourne CBD hands down.
We decided to drop by for one of their sandwiches. I had heard good things about the pork belly sandwich. Unfortunately we hadn’t realised their sandwiches were take away only, and I had underestimated the popularity of the pork belly sandwich.
Sour dough bread with creamy butter.
Spanner Crab on Toast, Avocado ($6)
Biting through the crust with a delicious crunch, followed by a mouthful of warm soft toast with a creamy avocado spread, which contrasted beautifully with the icing on the cake - a generous mound of cold sweet fresh spanner crab, which had a lemony tang. My next lunch date at Cumulus, I will have two of these babies for entree, three for my main, and one for dessert.
Mustard Crumbed Pig’s Tail, Celeriac Remoulade & Caperberries ($28)
The crispy crumbed layer breaks through easily, revealing tender succulent pork and pork fat, delectably moist and juicy. The accompaniment of pickle and onion slices worked well. The celeriac remoulade twirls, consisting of finely julienned celeriac and apple, finely diced onion, with mayonnaise and lemon was creamy and a little sour. The dish was a little too rich for me, but would have been perfect shared between two.
Spiced Cauliflower with Goat’s Curd ($15)
Cumulus is bright and buzzy, a great combination for a lunch date. Did I mention I have a soft spot for the sleek white marble countertop.
