Truth be told, I didn’t enjoy my previous experience at Nobu. Nobu is well-reputed overseas, which is also its downfall. I easily dismissed it as banking on its name and reputation alone, and yet after my recent encounter, I believe Nobu is a star in its own right - it’s all about selecting the right dishes. 

Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno ($20.5)

Fresh slivers of sashimi with a spicy jalapeno kick.

Sauteed Mushroom Salad ($23)

Juicy flavoursome assortment of mushrooms.

Beef Tataki with Ponzu and Garlic Chips ($26)

Tender slices of tataki, in a delicious ponzu marinade.


Toro Tartar Wasabi Soy and Caviar ($45)

One of my favourites, the gorgeous melt in your mouth toro was paired perfectly with the caviar, in a light wasabi soy.

Mushrooms in Spicy Garlic Sauce

Simple but the mushrooms were juicy and delicious.

Nasu Miso ($10)

Calamari in Spicy Garlic Sauce

The simple stir-fries are incredibly addictive. Soft tender calamari in a delicious spicy sauce.

Uni and Seafood Paella ($45)

Disappointing. The seafood was quite overcooked, and the paella was quite dry and didn’t have a distinct robust creamy feel to it.

David Blackmore Wagyu Score 9+ ($100)

This was amazing. Beautifully seared on the outside, yet wonderfully pink in the centre. This was melt in your mouth perfect. Slices of pure pleasure.

Rib Eye Marble Score 9+ ($80)

We made the mistake of ordering a lesser cut to compare and contrast. After the beautiful Blackmore cut, the Rib Eye couldn’t hold a candle. We were acutely aware of the flaws and imperfections of this lesser cut.

Beef Rib with Corn Salsa and Anti Cucho Sauce

This was another disappointment. It’s a tough act, following the Blackmore Wagyu, and the beef rib failed to hold its own. I’m not the biggest fan of anti cucho sauce, and this failed to convert me. 

Roasted Duck Breast with Fig Teriyaki ($35)

Gorgeously tender, and beautifully pink on the inside, in a fragrant fig sauce.

Nobu has some highs and lows. But once you weed out the dislikes, you’re left with the stunning toro tartare and that fantastic Blackmore Wagyu which are true treasures and pleasures. I’m glad I came back for Nobu and it’s certainly redeemed itself in my eyes.
